CONNECTIVE GROOVES
Born in the UK in 1976, JSPN (J Spin) aka Jason Steinkellner was exposed to the first drink of the UK soul that would transfer him into electronic music. He moved back to the US in 1978 to Fairfield, CA and grew up in the San Francisco east bay by the delta. The delta would have great significance later in his life. During his childhood and into his teens, JSPN was found interacting in gang activities and mixed up in the juvenile system, often visiting juvenile halls and camps.
In 1995, JSPN was involved in a head on car collision with a drunk driver and sustained serious injuries. During his rehabilitation a close friend knew he was struggling with depression and convinced JSPN to go to a rave in Oakland at the iconic and now infamous Home Base. This instance would have him fall in love with dance music culture… the people, the vibe and most of all the music. Forever changed from this event, JSPN had a renewed view on life and grabbed hold of it tightly.
Shortly after attending a few other parties, he knew he wanted to spin records and make people dance. JSPN picked up a mixer, 2 technics 1210’s turntables and began the endless quest for procuring bangin’ records. He practiced incessantly on a daily grind which led to playing at some local underground parties. 1997 would be his first official party named Simple Pleasures at the storied 2nd & Jackson location in Oakland, CA. That night was, without a doubt, a night full of magic.
